Aggies Commemorate NCAA Quarterfinal Campaign with Awards Banquet

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M Soccer held its annual awards banquet on Saturday, commemorating the 2015 campaign which saw the Aggies earn their 21st consecutive NCAA Championship bid and a sixth NCAA Quarterfinal trip.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas Texas A&M Soccer held its annual awards banquet on Saturday, commemorating the 2015 campaign which saw the Aggies earn their 21st consecutive NCAA Championship bid and a sixth NCAA Quarterfinal trip.
 
Highlighting the awards portion of the banquet were the positional Most Valuable Player honors. Mikaela Harvey and Haley Pounds shared the Offensive MVP honors, Harvey was named the Midfield MVP and McKayla Paulson was tabbed the Defensive MVP.
 
Emily Bates earned the Newcomer of the Year Award, in addition to being honored as the squad's Assists Leader. Pounds was recognized as the Aggies' Most Improved Player and acknowledged as A&M's Goals Leader.
 
Janae Cousineau and Danielle Rice were bestowed accolades for their attitudes, sharing the 12th Man Award. Kristi Leonard was presented the Spirit of Aggieland Award for the third consecutive season.
 
Grace Wright, recently called up by the Republic of Ireland Women's National Team, earned the Maximum Performance Award for her dedication and energy in the area of strength, conditioning and sports performance.
 
Stephanie Malherbe received the Perseverance Award for her strength and tenacity on the field.

The event also honors athletes and staff in several athletic and academic areas. Awards include recognition from various soccer media organizations and other outlets apart from Texas A&M University.

In 2015, the Aggies finished the season with a 17-7-2 record. They became the first team to ever knock North Carolina out of the NCAA Championship before the Sweet Sixteen round and topped Ole Miss in a penalty kick shoot to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
