Aggie Golfers Climb Leaderboard in Hawaii

The Texas A&M men's golf team ascended three positions on the leaderboard at the Wailua Golf Course Thursday, ending the second day of the John Burns Intercollegiate in third place.

KAUAI, Hawaii – The Texas A&M men's golf team ascended three positions on the leaderboard at the Wailua Golf Course Thursday, ending the second day of the John Burns Intercollegiate in third place.

The Aggies were led on the links by senior Adria Arnaus (73-69=142, -2) and sophomore Cameron Champ (74-69=143, -1), who each fired rounds of three-under par Thursday to earn shares of eighth and 11th place on the leaderboard.

Overall in the team standings, Texas A&M (292-285=577, +1) saw an 11-stroke improvement from Wednesday's opening round to climb behind only Texas (-16) and Cal (-9) in the 17-team field.

"Today was a good day," Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "We had really strong rounds out of Adria and Cam who both shot 69 and were steady throughout. They made a bunch of birdies early to get off to a good start and then held it together against some tough conditions."

Freshman Chandler Phillips (71-76=147, +3) ended the day with a share of 32nd in the player standings, while senior Ben Crancer (74-74=148, +4) was a shot back in 37th and Andrew Lister (79-73=152, +8) rounded out the A&M lineup in a tie for 59th.

"The wind wasn't quite as strong as yesterday but still blew pretty hard with a couple morning showers," Higgins added. "The guys handled it great and that allowed us to move up the leaderboard a little bit. We play in the final group tomorrow alongside the leaders and we're hoping to have a great final round. I'm really pleased with how we played the par-5s today; that's something we talked about and it was good to see the guys respond."

A trio of Aggies are competing in the field as individuals with Connor Black (78-73=151, +7), Jake Goodman (79-75=154, +10) and Dylan Siebenaler (79-85=164, +20) in 53rd, 78th and 96th, respectively.

Texas A&M will paired alongside Cal, Texas and UNLV when the event's final round tees off at 8:30 a.m. local time Friday morning. Results can be found on golfstat.com as well as live updates via twitter at @aggiemensgolf.
