KAUAI, Hawaii – The Texas A&M men's golf team finished off a strong showing at the 2016 John Burns Intercollegiate Friday at Wailua Golf Course, ending the 17-team event in third place.
Â
"We really finished strong," Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "We ended under par for the tournament which gives us a nice showing against some quality teams. It also tells us we're heading in the right direction."
Â
Texas A&M (292-285-286=863, -1), which climbed into third place during a solid second round on Thursday, maintained its position near the top of the leaderboard Friday with a team round of 286 that placed the Aggies behind only team champion Texas (-20) and Cal (-15).
Â
"I'm really proud of the guys today," Higgins added. "They got off to an awful start but showed great resiliency, fought hard and really played with great determination down the stretch."
Â
Senior Adria Arnaus (73-69-70=212, -4) carded his sixth career top-10 finish, ending competition alone in fifth place after collecting four back-nine birdies during the final round. Sophomore Cameron Champ (74-69-71=214, -2), meanwhile, earned his first career top-10 showing with a seventh-place finish.
Â
Senior Ben Crancer (74-74-71=219, +3) finished in a tie for 32nd while sophomore Chandler Phillips (71-76-74=221, +5) and Andrew Lister (79-73-74=226, +10) completed the A&M lineup in ties for 41st and 57th, respectively.
Â
