COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Aggies and Houston Cougars played to a 2-2 draw in a spring season exhibition match at Ellis Field on Sunday night.
Bri Davis pulled the draw out of the jaws of defeat with 50 seconds remaining in the match. Claudette Lassandro sent in a free kick offering from 40 yards out, finding the head of Davis in the six-yard box and Davis drove it to the back of the net for the equalizer.
The Aggies, who were playing without the services of returning starters Emily Bates, Mikaela Harvey and Stephanie Malherbe, owned the advantages in shots (19-7), shots-on-goal (8-4) and corner kicks (3-0).
"It was great to get out and play on Ellis Field again," Texas A&M head coach G Guerrieri said. "I thought Houston came in and played hard. They scored a couple good goals, which are good learning experiences for our young players. I thought Jordan Hill, when she stepped on the field made a good impact on our success. As did Bri Davis who scored a goal in her debut."
Houston scored in the 20th minute on a goal by Selena Peters.
The Aggies knotted the contest at 1-1 in the 37th minute on a penalty kick by Haley Pounds. Texas A&M was awarded the PK when Ally Watt was taken down in the box.
The Cougars reclaimed the lead in the 51st minute when Desiree Bowen collected a free kick from the left flank and punched it past the Aggie netminder.
Texas A&M returns to action next Sunday as the Aggies host the Lamar Cardinals in a 3 pm contest at Ellis Field.
