Davis Named Co-SEC Player of the Week

For the second time this season, Texas A&M's Tyler Davis has been honored as SEC Freshman of the Week by the league office. This week, Davis shared the accolade with Mississippi State's Quinndary Weatherspoon.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second time this season, Texas A&M's Tyler Davis has been honored as SEC Freshman of the Week by the league office. This week, Davis shared the accolade with Mississippi State's Quinndary Weatherspoon.

Davis, a 6-foot-10, 265-pound center from Plano, Texas, averaged 13 points and 9.5 rebounds in wins over Ole Miss and No. 14 Kentucky to help the Aggies hit the 20-win plateau and move within a game of first place in the SEC standings.

During mid-week action, Davis contributed 11 points and seven rebounds as the Aggies got back on the winning track with a victory over the Rebels. Returning to the court Saturday against UK, he provided one of the Aggies' biggest moments of the season as his putback in the final second of overtime lifted the Aggies to their fourth win over a ranked foe this year. Davis recorded his second career double-double vs. the Wildcats, contributing 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Earlier this season on Dec. 21, Davis was named SEC Freshman of the Week following a standout performance that helped the Aggies defeat No. 16 Baylor inside Reed Arena.

Joining Davis and Weatherspoon in receiving honors from the conference was Tennessee's Armani Moore who was named SEC Player of the Week.

Texas A&M basketball returns to the court Wednesday night at Reed Arena where Davis' Aggies (20-7; 9-5 SEC) will host Weatherspoon's Mississippi State Bulldogs (12-14; 5-9 SEC) in a 6 p.m. contest.
