Fields for the NCAA Indoor Championships have been announced and the Aggies will be represented in 11 events, seven for the men and four for the women. The national championship meet will be held March 11-12 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Alabama.
Texas A&M men, now No. 3 in the USTFCCCA national rankings, have 10 entries spread across the 200m, 800m, 4x400 relay, pole vault, long jump, triple jump, and heptathlon. The Aggie women, ranked No. 20, have five entries among the 60m, 200m, 400m and pentathlon.
The 10 entries for the A&M men are tied with Oregon for the second most NCAA Indoor entries behind 12 for Arkansas while Florida is fourth with eight entries. Oregon leads women's entries with 16 followed by 12 for the Razorback and 10 each for Florida and Georgia.
SEC champion Donavan Brazier remains the collegiate and U.S. leader, as well as second fastest on the world list, in the 800m with his 1:45.93 American junior record. Brazier broke a 26-year-old SEC meet record in claiming the conference title with a time of 1:46.08. Last year's winning time at the NCAA Indoor was 1:46.05 while the meet record stands at 1:45.33 from 2001.
Shamier Little ranks third in the women's 400m with a 52.15 that she ran to place second in the SEC final. The two athletes ahead of Little on the national list are Courtney Okolo of Texas (51.06), the defending NCAA Indoor champion, and Taylor Ellis-Watson of Arkansas (51.84), the NCAA runner-up from 2015. Little placed fourth in the NCAA Indoor final last season after finishing third as a freshman in 2014.
Three other Aggies rank third in the nation in their respective events. The trio includes Devin Jenkins (200m, 20.58), Hector Hernandez (800m, 1:46.32), and Audie Wyatt (Pole vault, 18-1). Annie Kunz ranks sixth in the pentathlon (4,363 points).
Returning point scorers for A&M from previous national indoor meets include Chase Wolfle (Pole Vault, 5th), Latario Collie (Triple jump, 5th), Aaliyah Brown (60m, 8th) and Jennifer Madu (60m, 8th in 2014).
