Texas A&M’s Henschel punches NCAA ticket

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M sophomore Tyler Henschel earned a trip to the 2016 NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships to highlight the Aggies' Day 1 efforts at the NCAA Zone D Diving qualifier at the Student Recreation Natatorium.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M sophomore Tyler Henschel earned a trip to the 2016 NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships to highlight the Aggies' Day 1 efforts at the NCAA Zone D Diving qualifier at the Student Recreation Natatorium.
 
Henschel punched his ticket to the national meet for the second straight year by grabbing the seventh and final qualifying spot in the men's three-meter dive. Henschel scored a 12-dive total of 753.65 points to earn his spot.
 
In other action involving the Aggies, freshman Sam Thornton fell just one spot shy of qualifying in the three-meter dive with an eighth-place finish with a score of 751.90. Junior Colton Haffey was 18th with 630.85, while freshman Skylar Lake placed 23rd in the prelims with a score of 292.25.
 
On the women's side, junior Madison Hudkins placed 11th in the one-meter dive with a score of 569.70, while sophomore Zoe Alaniz was 33rd in the prelims with a 242.90 point total .

The Field
The NCAA Zone D meet features Division I divers from the states of Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota and Minnesota. The Zone D qualifier is one of five Zone meets across the nation.
 
Schools represented at the Zone D meet are: Arkansas, Arkansas-Little Rock, Houston, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, LSU, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State, SMU, Texas A&M, TCU, Texas, Tulane, Wisconsin, Wisconsin-Green Bay and Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
 
Making the Meet
The top five female and top four male divers from each event at their respective zone diving meet will earn a spot at the NCAA Championships. Additional place finishers in each event at each zone will be eligible based on the number of divers from that zone that finished in the top 16 at the previous year's NCAA Championships.
