Aggie Golfers to Compete in General Hackler Championship

After earning the team title at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate during its last action, the Texas A&M Men's golf team will take its swings this weekend at the second annual General Hackler Championship, a two-day event which takes place on the Dunes Golf & Beach Club Course.

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – After earning the team title at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate during its last action, the Texas A&M Men's golf team will take its swings this weekend at the second annual General Hackler Championship, a two-day event which takes place on the Dunes Golf & Beach Club Course.

"The team is playing really well right now, so we are pretty excited to get right back out there and tee it up again," Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "This is another new course and experience for us; with that said, we are playing with a lot of confidence so we are looking forward to any challenges that the Dunes Club might present."

Representing the Aggies at the event will be seniors Ben Crancer, Adria Arnaus and Andrew Lister along with sophomore Cameron Champ and freshman Chandler Phillips.

Crancer is coming into the weekend riding the confidence of a medalist showing at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate, his second career individual victory.

Tabbed as one of the premier golf tournaments in the country, the 2016 edition of the General Hackler Championship features 15 teams, including seven ranked among Golfstat's top-50. Last year, North Florida won the team title carding a three-round score of 861 (-3) while NC State finished second with an 873 (+9) and Iowa State finished in third with an 896 (+12).

"This is a strong field with several teams that have experience on this course so we will need to be at our best to compete," Higgins added. "If nothing else, we are getting to see the whole country this spring from the bayou to the desert to the beach."

Golfers can look forward to a 54-hole format played over the course of two days. The tournament begins Saturday with a shotgun start 7:30 a.m. (CT) and 36 holes of continues play between two rounds. Sunday's third round will tee off from holes No. 1 and No. 10 from 7:30 a.m.-9:50 a.m. (CT). The Dunes Golf & Beach Club Course will be set up for par 72 and 7,233 yards.
