KANE'OHE, Hawai'i- Texas A&M's women's golf team is tied for second after 36 holes at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational at the Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course, shooting an even-par 576 in the first two rounds of the tournament. Three A&M players are inside the Top 10 of the individual leaderboard.
"I was really proud of the way we fought all day," said Texas A&M head coach Trelle McCombs. "We got hot in the first round, but we let some things bother us in the second round. It was a tale of two rounds."
The Aggies came out with stellar first round that included 17 birdies and an eagle, as three A&M players shot under-par. A&M shot a 7-under par 281 in the first round on the par 72 / 6,099 yard course, which was good for the tournament lead. The Maroon and White had to battle in the second round of the day, shooting a 7-over 295, but still managed to finish the day in second place.
No. 10 Oklahoma State leads the event at 569 (-7), seven shots ahead of the Aggies. The Cowgirls' Maddie McCrary leads the individual competition by a stroke at 139 (-5).
Thanya Pattamakijsakul, who had a career-best runner-up finish in her last tournament, is tied for third with a 3-under 141. Pattamakijsakul shot a 70 (-2) and 71 (-1), and now has shot par-or-better in four of her last five rounds, and nine times total this season.
Bianca Fabrizio is tied for fifth at 2-under (142) after matching her career-best with a 67 (-5) in the first round and a second-round 75 (+3). Fabrizio was in the tournament lead after the first round, after four birdies and an eagle in the opening round.
Maddie Szeryk is tied for ninth with an even-par 144, shooting a 69-75 on the day. Szeryk now has 35 career par-or-better rounds, which passes Ashley Knoll for second all-time at A&M.
Andrea Jonama had a solid day of her own, and is tied for 23rd after shooting a 149 (+5). Jonama shot 75-74, posting five birdies and did not have a hole worse than a bogey all day.
Callie Scheffler rounded out the A&M lineup with a 154 (+10) and is tied for 47th after a 76-78. Chloe Velasco, playing as an individual, is a stroke behind that at 155 (+11) in 52nd after shooting 78-77.
Begoña Aranguren is tied for 65th at 159 (+15), playing in her first tournament as an Aggie, shooting 82-77.
