Aggie Student-Athletes to Take Part in The Big Event

Texas A&M student-athletes will join with Aggie students across the community on Saturday, Apr. 2 to participate in The Big Event, the largest one-day, student-run service project in the nation.

COLLEGE STATION—Texas A&M student-athletes will join with Aggie students across the community on Saturday, Apr. 2 to participate in The Big Event, the largest one-day, student-run service project in the nation.

Since its introduction in 1982, each spring, tens of thousands of Texas A&M students come together to say "Thank You" to the residents of Bryan and College Station. For the past 33 years, Aggie students have participated in this annual event to show their appreciation to the surrounding community, completing service projects such as yard work, window washing, and painting for residents of the community. Although The Big Event has become the largest one-day, student-run service project in the nation, the message and the mission remains the same – to simply say "Thank You."

Through service-oriented activities, The Big Event promotes campus and community unity as students come together for one day to express their gratitude for the support from the surrounding community. The Aggie athletic teams especially appreciate the support from the community.

The Big Event is a proud member of the Student Government Association at Texas A&M, and a recognized student organization of Texas A&M University.

The Aggie football team will assist at Twin City Mission in Bryan, while volleyball, soccer, swimming and diving, equestrian will also work together in the community. Some student-athletes are also involved in other student organizations and will join in other areas. Teams such as softball, baseball, tennis, golf, track and field as well as the basketball teams, have completed community work projects throughout the year knowing the competition seasons would preclude them from participating in April.
