No. 25 Women's Golf Shoots 299 In First Day Of SEC Championship

HOOVER, Ala. – No. 25 Texas A&M is seventh after shooting a 299 (+11) in the first of three rounds at the 2016 SEC Women's Golf Championship. Thanya Pattamakijsakul leads all A&M individuals with a 1-under 71 in the first round, good for t-7th place.

Pattamakijsakul had her 12th par-or-better round of the season and her seventh in the past 10 rounds with a 71 (-1) on the par 72 / 6,195 yard Greystone Golf & Country Club Legacy Course. She finishes the day just two strokes behind tournament co-leaders Ainhoa Olarra of South Carolina and Maria Torres of Florida.

Andrea Jonama shot a 2-over 74 and is tied for 17th. Maddie Szeryk had a 3-over 75 and is tied for 25th. Bianca Fabrizio shot a 79 (+7) and Callie Scheffler shot a 82 (+10) to tie for 52nd and 64th, respectively.

The Aggies are 13 shots behind tournament leaders No. 1 Alabama (286/-2), but are just four shots out of third place. In fact, just six shots separate third place and ninth place in the closely-contested SEC Championship.

Texas A&M returns to action for the second of three rounds at the Greystone Golf and Country Club at 8 a.m. on Saturday. The Aggies are the defending champions of the event.
