HOOVER, Ala.- No. 25 Texas A&M surged up the leaderboard on Saturday, shooting a 291 (+3) to move up into third place at the 2016 SEC Championship at Greystone Golf & Country Club.
"I am proud of our entire team effort today," said Texas A&M head coach Trelle McCombs. "We fought for every stroke today, battling conditions that were tougher."
After two rounds on the par 72 / 6,195 Legacy Course, the Aggies sit at 590 (+14), which is 12 shots off tournament co-leaders No. 1 Alabama and No. 7 Florida. A&M entered the second of three rounds in seventh place, before making a move up the leaderboard.
"All of the girls played well, including Thanya, who just had one bad hole," added McCombs. "Callie Scheffler really stepped up with three birdies in her last four holes, which really helped the team."
Maddie Szeryk led the Aggies on Saturday with a 2-under 70, moving up to a tie for 6th in the tournament with a two-round score of 145 (+1). Szeryk, last year's SEC Individual Runner-Up, is eight strokes behind tournament leader Maria Torres of Florida, but only is two strokes behind a three-way tie for second place.
Callie Scheffler had her third par-or-better round of the season, firing an even-par 72, closing out with birdies on No. 15, No. 17 and No. 18. She is tied for 41st at 154 (+10) after two rounds.
Bianca Fabrizio shot a 1-over 73, highlighted by a 3-under on the back nine. She is now tied for 36th with a 152 (+8) after two rounds.
Andrea Jonama shot a 4-over 76 on Saturday, and is tied for 24th with a 150 (+6). Thanya Pattamakijsakul shot an 8-over 80, despite an 8 on the par four 10th. Pattamakijsakul is tied for 32nd with a 151 (+7) after two rounds.
A&M tees off for the third and final round of the 2016 SEC Championship at 9:40 a.m. on Sunday off of Hole No. 1. The Aggies won the 2015 SEC Championship.
