IRVING, Texas- Texas A&M sophomore Maddie Szeryk shot a 2-over 73 in the first round of the LPGA Volunteers of America Texas Shootout on Thursday. She is tied for 68th, and is in position to make the 36-hole cut of the 70 players & ties.
Szeryk birdied the par 3 4th hole of the par 71 / 6,462 yard Las Colinas Country Club, and was within one stroke of the tournament lead until a bogey on No. 9, one of three bogeys on the day for Szeryk.
This is Szeryk's third career LPGA event, but she is looking to make the cut for the first time.
Szeryk leads Texas A&M with a 72.27 stroke average this season, and has shot par-or-better in 15 of her 26 rounds this season.
