Texas A&M men's basketball head coach Billy Kennedy announced Tuesday the signing of highly regarded guard Deshawn Corprew to the Aggies' incoming 2016-17 recruiting class.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M men's basketball head coach Billy Kennedy announced Tuesday the signing of highly regarded guard Deshawn Corprew to the Aggies' incoming 2016-17 recruiting class.

"Deshawn gives us another talented and versatile guard who is capable of playing all three positions on the perimeter," Kennedy said. "He's an outstanding defender and has a great ability to penetrate and get into the paint. His toughness, size and athletic ability are going to have a big impact on our team."

The 6-foot-5, 190-pound athlete is rated as a four-star prospect by ESPN, Rivals and 247 Sports with ESPN regarding him as the 91st top prospect nationally as well as a member of the ESPN Top 100 while Rivals slotted him as the 85th best player in this year's class.

A native of Norfolk, Va., Corpew played the last two seasons at Quality Education Academy Basketball and is described as a physical and explosive guard who is a steady ball handler and combines solid outside shooting with quickness attacking the rim.

During 17U Nike EYBL competition, Corprew played with the Boo Williams squad during the 2015 season  when he averaged 15.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per contest while shooting 54.8 percent from the floor and 43.2 percent from 3-point range. Additionally, he added 25 assists, 23 steals and nine blocks in 16 games.

Corprew becomes the third member of Texas A&M's incoming 2016-17 freshman class, joining point guard J.J. Caldwell (Houston, Texas) and forward Robert Williams (Vivian, La.), who are also members of ESPN's Top 100. The Aggies have also announced the addition of Lipscomb transfer guard J.C. Hampton, who will be eligible for next season.
