Entries for NCAA West Preliminary rounds announced

Texas A&M will have a total of 67 entries amid 31 events for the NCAA Track & Field Championship field, which begins next week with the NCAA West Preliminary rounds in Lawrence, Kansas.

Texas A&M will have a total of 67 entries amid 31 events for the NCAA Track & Field Championship field, which begins next week with the NCAA West Preliminary rounds in Lawrence, Kansas.
 
The top 48 individual entries and top 24 relays in the West region will compete next Thursday, May 26 through Saturday, May 28 at the University of Kansas Rock Chalk Park. The fields will be trimmed to 12 in both relays and individual events for advancement to the NCAA Championship weekend in Eugene, Oregon, which will be held June 8-11.
 
Texas A&M's No. 1 ranked men's team will have 35 entries among 17 events, which includes 32 athletes. The Aggie women, ranked No. 9 nationally, has 32 entries among 14 events, which includes 26 athletes.
 
Two entries for Texas A&M have advanced to Eugene for the heptathlon and decathlon as the top 24 multi-event marks in the nation qualify for the NCAA Championship field. Aggie junior Lindon Victor is the current world and collegiate leader with his decathlon score of 8,446 from the SEC Championships while senior Annie Kunz is ranked sixth in the heptathlon with her SEC runner-up score of 5,976 points.
 
Updated USTFCCCA national team computer rankings following this past weekend still have Texas A&M men in the No. 1 position while the Aggie women moved up a spot to No. 9.
 
Following the Aggie men among the top 10 were LSU, Florida, Oregon, Arkansas, Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Houston and Texas Tech. The women's top 10 included Arkansas, Kentucky, Oregon, USC, Kansas State, Texas, Florida, LSU, Texas A&M and Stanford.
 
The updated Bowerman watch list heading into the NCAA preliminary rounds includes Texas A&M's Shamier Little on the women's list and Lindon Victor on the men's list.
