Aggie Baseball Announces Team Award Winners

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M baseball team announced its annual list of team honors on Tuesday after the Aggies concluded the 2016 campaign with a 49-16 record, extending their school-record string of consecutive NCAA Championship appearances to 10 seasons and claiming their eighth overall NCAA Regional title. The Aggies also captured the program's first-ever SEC Tournament crown.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M baseball team announced its annual list of team honors on Tuesday after the Aggies concluded the 2016 campaign with a 49-16 record, extending their school-record string of consecutive NCAA Championship appearances to 10 seasons and claiming their eighth overall NCAA Regional title. The Aggies also captured the program's first-ever SEC Tournament crown.
 
The 2016 campaign also saw the Aggies lead the nation with 13 players selected in the MLB First Year Player Draft. The 13 draftees established a new school record.

MARION PUGH MOST VALUABLE PLAYER – Boomer White
White was awarded the Marion Pugh Most Valuable Player Award. White started all 65 games for the Aggies and was one of only three Texas A&M players to appear in every game. On the year, he batted .386 with 100 hits, 49 runs, 19 doubles, five home runs, 46 RBI and 10 stolen bases. White logged a .517 slugging percentage and a .462 on-base percentage. He set the SEC record for most hits in league play, logging 57 knocks in 30 games.

White filled up his trophy case in 2016. In addition to earning the Aggies' first SEC Player of the Year honor, he was named All-America First Team by Baseball America, All-America Third Team by Collegiate Baseball, All-SEC First Team and NCAA College Station Regional All-Tournament Team.

C.E. "PAT" OLSEN OUTSTANDING PITCHER AWARD – Brigham Hill
Sophomore pitcher Brigham Hill was one of the league's top pitchers and was selected by his teammates to receive the C.E. "Pat" Olsen Outstanding Pitcher Award.
 
Hill earned All-America Second Team status from Baseball America and garnered All-Tournament status at both the SEC Tournament and the NCAA College Station Regional.
 
Hill finished the year with a 9-2 record with one save, a 2.51 ERA, 99 strikeouts and a .234 opponent batting average in 97.0 innings over 24 games, including 13 starts.

The Nacogdoches, Texas native was 4-1 with one save in league play, posting a 2.63 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 51.1 innings.

WALLY MOON AWARD – J.B. Moss
The Wally Moon Award is given annually to the player who shows the most improvement from the fall to the end of the season. This year senior J.B. Moss was chosen by his teammates as the recipient of the honor.
 
Moss, who entered his senior season with a career .251 batting average in 108 games, led the team with 65 runs. He batted .320 on the season with 81 hits, 17 doubles, four triples, five home runs, 42 RBI and 16 stolen bases.

In SEC action, Moss batted .299 with 28 runs, eight doubles, two triples, two home runs, 20 RBI and 10 stolen bases. He earned All-Tournament recognition at the NCAA College Station Regional.

MARION PUGH SPIRIT AWARD – Corbin Martin
A consummate teammate, sophomore Corbin Martin was recognized for his efforts by his teammates for the second consecutive season. They awarded him the Marion Pugh Spirit Award, which is given annually to the player who is most instrumental to team unity and who provides valuable leadership both on and off the field.

Martin went 2-1 with a 5.47 ERA and 33 strikeouts over 26.1 innings in his 16 appearances, including three starts.

The Cypress, Texas-native continued to be the driving force in the dugout where was instrumental in the emergence of the Whammy Movement and garnered national attention with the rally Cheez-its box hat.

LORAINE B. AND WILLIAM B. "BREEZY" BREAZEALE RBI AWARD – Hunter Melton
Melton was the Aggies' best run-producer, earning the Loraine B. and William B. "Breezy" Breazeale RBI Award.

The Houston, Texas-native drove in a team-best 67 runs during the 2016 campaign. He batted.300 with 56 runs, 13 doubles, two triples, 12 home runs and 67 RBI.
