AUSTIN – Texas A&M junior Karis Jochen earned a second-team Academic All-America honor among the Division I women's track and field/cross country team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
A total of 45 women were selected for the CoSIDA Academic All-America teams, with 15 athletes each among the first, second and third teams. There were 10 athletes from the SEC receiving Academic All-America status, with five selections each among the first and second teams.Â
Jochen, who is from College Station and attended A&M Consolidated, was named to the CoSIDA All-District team for the second consecutive year and receives her first CoSIDA Academic All-America honor this season. Jochen has a 3.94 GPA in business honors at Texas A&M.
In cross country this past season Jochen claimed All-America honors with a top 40 finish in the NCAA Championships and was named the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. During the track and field season Jochen scored team points in two events during the SEC Outdoor Championships. In the 10,000m she placed fifth and then she finished eighth in the 5,000m.
