Texas A&M’s Galat places sixth in the 200 IM at U.S. Olympic Trials

OMAHA, Neb. – Texas A&M sophomore Bethany Galat posted her second top eight finish of the meet with a sixth-place performance in the 200-meter IM at the 2016 Olympic Team Trials on Wednesday at the CenturyLink Center.

 

On the heels of her bronze medal effort in the 400 IM on Sunday, Galat, from Mishawaka, Ind., placed sixth with a time of 2:12.82.

 

In other action, former Texas A&M NCAA Champion Cammile Adams moved through two rounds of the 200-meter butterfly and enters Thursday's final as the top seed with a time of 2:07.31. Aggie junior Sarah Gibson tied for the seventh-fastest time in the 200 fly prelims with a lifetime best time 2:10.84 and then was 15th after the semifinals with a time of 2:12.20 and did not advance.

 

On the men's side, sophomore Jonathan Tybur had another strong race, placing 21st in the 200-meter breaststroke with a lifetime best time of 2:15.76.

 

In action on Thursday for the Aggies are senior Meredith Oliver, sophomore Kristine Malone and freshman Claire Rasmus in the women's 100 freestyle; 2014 senior Breeja Larson, 2015 senior Sarah Henry, sophomore Jorie Caneta and Galat in the 200 breaststroke; and Adams will seek her second second straight U.S. Olympic Team berth in the 200 fly.
