OMAHA, Neb. – Texas A&M sophomore Bethany Galat grabbed her second third place finish and third top six finish of the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials with a bronze medal effort in the 200-meter breaststroke on Friday.
Galat, from Mishawaka, Ind., touched the wall in 2:24.52, which was just .13 of a second away from a qualifying spot in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro later this summer. Indiana freshman Lily King won in 2:24.08 while former Tennessee All-American Molly Hannis was the runner-up in 2:24.39. Galat was also third in the 400-meter IM on Sunday and sixth in the 200 IM on Wednesday. 2015 Aggie senior Sarah Henry was also in the 200 breast final and finished eighth in 2:28.12.
Fellow sophomore Lisa Bratton advanced through two rounds of the 200-meter backstroke and enters Saturday's final as the No. 4 seed. Bratton, from Richland, Wash., posted a time of 2:11.92 in the prelims and 2:09.79 while finishing second in her semifinal heat.
