Malherbe Suits Up Against USA on Saturday

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M junior Stephanie Malherbe is a member of the South Africa Senior Women's National Team that will play the reigning Olympic and World Cup champion United States Women's National Team in an international friendly Saturday at Soldier Field in Chicago.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M junior Stephanie Malherbe is a member of the South Africa Senior Women's National Team that will play the reigning Olympic and World Cup champion United States Women's National Team in an international friendly Saturday at Soldier Field in Chicago.
 
Malherbe, who has been training in South Africa since January, is one of 25 players who made the trip to Chicago. It marks the last rehearsal for the squad before heading to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the 2016 Summer Olympics. The Olympic roster will include 18 players with four reserves. On July 14, South Africa manager Vera Pauw will announce the squad heading to Brazil.
 
It marks the first-ever meeting between South Africa and the United States in a women's soccer match on the senior level. The match is slated for 12 pm Central and will be televised on FS1.
 
Malherbe has played in multiple matches for South Africa during the spring training session, including two starts against the Netherlands in June.
 
As a sophomore in 2015, Malherbe was one of just three players to start all 26 matches for the Aggies. She logged one goal and three assists as a stalwart in the midfield. As a freshman, Malherbe played in all 27 matches, including five starts, logging two assists.
