COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M women's tennis has been named an ITA All-Academic Team, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced. In addition, Aggies Saska Gavrilovska, Stefania Hristov and Eva Paalma received ITA Scholar-Athlete honors.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above on a 4.00 scale. All varsity letterwinners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year, including fall 2015 and spring 2016.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must meet the following criteria: 1) be a varsity letterwinner, 2) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale for the current academic year, and 3) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).

This marks the second consecutive year Gavrilovska, a junior human resource development major from Serbia, and Paalma, a sophomore business administration major from Estonia, have earned ITA Scholar-Athlete distinction. It is the first time Hristov, a senior human resource development major from Romania, has received the accolade.

The complete list of award winners is available at: http://www.itatennis.com/Awards_4114/Academic-Awards/2016_Division_I_Women.htm

On the court, Texas A&M went 17-11 under the direction of first-year head coach Mark Weaver and first-year associate head coach Patrick Sullivan. The Aggies, No. 19 in the ITA final team rankings, made a 17th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championship, advancing to the second round before losing a 4-3 nail-biter to eventual national champion Stanford.

Individually, Gavrilovska became only the second player in Texas A&M history to compete in a third NCAA Singles Championship. She reached the second round and finished a team-high No. 23 in the final ITA singles rankings.

Paalma and her partner, Rachel Pierson, were a team-best No. 31 in the national doubles rankings. Hristov had shoulder surgery prior to the spring season and was unable to compete.
