NEW MINAS, Nova Scotia -- Texas A&M junior Maddie Szeryk registered an impressive performance with a 14th place finish at the 103rd playing of the Canadian Women's Amateur Championship in Nova Scotia.
The two-time All-SEC performer was near the top throughout all four rounds at the par 70 / 6,136-yard course at Ken-Wo Country Club in New Minas, Nova Scotia. In the first day of competition, she shot a one-under 69 that had her within one stroke of the tournament lead.
After posting a 72-74=146, (+6), in the middle two rounds, Szeryk jumped five spots on the leaderboard in the final day of competition with an even-par 70. Her final tally of five-over earned her a share of 14th trailing 13 strokes behind the winner, Hye-jin Choi of South Korea.
The Aggies also had two other golfers competing north of the border. Courtney Dow and Chloe Velasco both made the cut in the 117-player field. Dow, an incoming freshman from Frisco, came in a tie for 48th while the sophomore Velasco, carded her best round 75 (+5) on the final day to finish in 69th.
Szeryk led the Aggies during the 2015-16 campaign and ranked 15th in the nation in scoring average. She brought home her first title as a collegian at the Florida State Match Up. Velasco posted a 78.55 stroke average as a freshman in her first season in Aggieland. Dow, the fifth ranked recruit from the class of 2016, joins the Aggies bringing with her an impressive resume that includes representing the United States at the 2015 World Junior Girls' Championship.
Texas A&M will return to action in the fall as they seek to earn a bid in the NCAA tournament for the 17th consecutive season.
