Texas A&M Women sweep Thursday’s Championship races at U.S. Open

MINNEAPOLIS – It was a banner day for the Texas A&M women's swimming and diving team at the U.S. Open as the Aggies swept all three women's Championship final races on Thursday on the campus of the University of Minnesota.

Wednesday's 200 breaststroke winner Bethany Galat, a junior from Miskawaka, Ind., tallied her second victory in as many nights as she out-shined the 400-meter IM field. Galat touched in a time of 4:38.66, holding off Madisyn Cox of the University of Texas by .19 of a second.

Senior-to-be Sarah Gibson, from San Antonio, Texas, was the Aggies' next U.S. Open Champion with a win in the 100-meter butterfly. Gibson, the 2016 NCAA runner-up in the event, finished in a time of 58.39 for a .19 win over runner-up Helen Moffitt of the University of North Carolina.

The Aggies closed out the evening session with a win in the 800-meter freestyle relay with the foursome of Galat, sophomore-to-be Claire Rasmus (New Orleans, La.), junior-to-be Caitlyn Moon (DeKalb, Ill.) and Gibson touching first in a time of 8:13.57.
