MINNEAPOLIS – Boosted by five event victories, the Texas A&M women's swimming team won the team championship at the U.S. Open last weekend at the University of Minnesota.
The Aggies grabbed individual victories in the 100 butterfly, 200 breaststroke and 400 IM and also earned relay wins in the 400 medley and 800 freestyle relays. In all, the Aggies scored points in 16 of 17 possible races over the five-day meet.
Texas A&M scored a total of 355 points, which out-distanced the runner-up team by more than 100 points. The Aggies had two of the top three point scorers in the meet with senior-to-be Sarah Gibson (San Antonio, Texas) finishing No. 2 among the high-point scorers with 84 points, while junior-to-be Bethany Galat (Mishawaka, Ind.) was No. 3 with 73 points.
Also contributing individual points for the Aggies were junior Lisa Bratton (31), junior Franko Jonker (22), junior Esther Gonzalez (22), sophomore Claire Rasmus (11) and junior Caitlyn Moon (4).
