RIO DE JANIERO, Brazil – Texas A&M sophomore-to-be Sydney Pickrem advanced to the final of the women's 200-meter IM on Monday night and will take on the world's best for a gold medal in Tuesday's Championship final at the 2016 Olympic Games. The evening session of Tuesday's swimming competition will begin at 8 p.m. CT on NBC.
Representing Canada, Pickrem, from Dunedin, Fla., advanced through two rounds of qualifying on Monday. The 2016 SEC Freshman Swimmer of the Year had the eighth-fastest swim of the morning prelims with a time of 2:11.06 and then posted a time of 2:10.57 in the evening semifinals to qualify as the No. 7 seed for the Championship final.
As a freshman at Texas A&M in 2015-16, Pickrem was the SEC Champion in the 400-yard IM and earned first-team All-America honors in the 200 and 400 IM and with the Aggies' 800-yard freestyle relay.
