VERONA, N.Y. – The Aggie men's golf team opens the fall season up with a trip to New York for the Turning Stone – Tiger Intercollegiate. The University of Missouri will play host to the seventh edition of the event which takes place on the Kaluhyat Course (Par-72 / 6,857 yds) at the Turning Stone Resort.
"It's always exciting at the beginning of a new year," Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "It's a chance to start fresh and this is the most excited I've been in a few years about our squad. It really has all the makings of a very promising season."
The 54-hole tournament will tee off on Sunday at 7 a.m. (CT) with the second round coming later in the day. The event wraps up with a final 18 holes on Monday.
Missouri, the host and four-time defending tournament champs, will join the Aggies in the field along with Alabama State, Binghamton, Boston College, Chattanooga, Cleveland State, IPFW, IUPUI, Northern Kentucky, Sacred Heart, St. Peter's, Toledo and Villanova.
The A&M lineup will include a trio of returners in sophomore Chandler Phillips and juniors Andrew Paysse and Cameron Champ. Phillips, a 2016 All-SEC honoree, posted three top-five performances in his first season in Aggieland. Champ, meanwhile, finished his sophomore season hot, including a fifth place finish at the SEC Championship. Program newcomers Kavan Eubank and Viraj Madappa round out the A&M field.
"I love the returning guys we've got," Higgins added. "Chandler and Cameron have really turned into outstanding players and they're going to be great leaders. Andrew has also really taken on a leadership role as well as starting to come into his own as a player. The new guys are bringing excitement and energy; they're really talented and are looking forward to making their mark. We've added a lot of depth and a lot of talent."
