RIVIERA MAYA, Mexico- Texas A&M golfers Maddie Szeryk and Bianca Fabrizio are set to compete in the World Amateur Team Championships this week, as Szeryk represents Canada and Fabrizio plays for Italy at Mayakoba El Camaleon Golf Club and Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club this week.

The 72-hole tournament, which runs through Saturday, has 55 players competing for their country. The two lowest scores from each three-person team count in each round, and the country with the best four-day total receives the Espirito Santo Trophy.

The World Amateur Team Championships date back to 1958, with the women's competition, the Espirito Santo Trophy, dating back to 1964. The competition is held only in even-numbered years.

Szeryk tees off at 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday and Fabrizio tees off at 9:25 a.m., both on the Mayakoba El Camaleon Golf Club.

Szeryk, a two-time All-SEC selection, is tied for Texas A&M's all-time career stroke average lead entering 2016-17. Fabrizio won the SEC Championship as an individual in 2015, and ranks sixth on the Aggies' career stroke average list.

Fabrizio, Szeryk and the Aggies begin their quest to qualify for NCAA competition for the 17th consecutive season on Sept. 24 at the Schooner Fall Invite in Norman, Okla.
