BIRMINGHAM – A second victory this season has earned Texas A&M senior Karis Jochen another SEC Runner of the Week honor while Aggie newcomer Ashley Driscoll received SEC Freshman of the Week accolades.
In defending her individual title at the Texas A&M Invitational, Jochen (College Station) covered the 6,000-meter distance on the Dale Watts cross country course in a time of 20:14.2, producing the top time at that distance in the SEC so far this season. Jochen also won the Aggie Opener last month in a race that covered 4,100m.
Driscoll (Round Rock) has been the second Aggie finisher in both races this season. She placed 19th overall among a field of 166 runners in the home meet this past weekend, clocking a time of 21:37.1.
SEC honors for the men also came from the Texas A&M Invitational as Kentucky's Jacob Thomson earned Runner of the Week while his teammate Brennan Fields was selected as the Freshman of the Week.
In the updated USTFCCCA region rankings, the Aggies remained in the same positions with the men third while the women are sixth. Texas A&M men continue to receive votes in the national rankings.
This week the Aggie squads travel to South Bend, Indiana, for the Notre Dame Invitational, which will be held on Friday with a start time of 1 p.m. (CT). The women will race over 5,000-meters while the men have a five mile distance to cover on the University of Notre Dame's nine-hole Burke golf course.
