First place in the SEC women's basketball standings is on the line as No. 15 Texas A&M heads to No. 2 South Carolina for a pivotal early-season matchup in Colonial Life Arena, the first of two matchups between the last SEC programs to reach the Women's Final Four.
The game is broadcast on ESPN2, with Pam Ward and Carolyn Peck, the former Purdue coach who won the 1999 NCAA Title. Fans can also access the game through WatchESPN at no extra charge to authenticated subscribers.
Gabe Bock and Steve Miller bring listeners the action on the Texas A&M Sports Network, available in Bryan-College Station on The Zone 1150 AM/102.7 FM on the radio dial. Fans can also listen to the broadcast statewide on several Texas A&M Sports Network affiliates (check local listings), on 12thMan.com/showcase or the Radio Aggieland app.
South Carolina leads the SEC after four games with a 4-0 record, and Texas A&M sits in a second place tie with Mississippi State at 3-1, meaning the winner of this game has at least a share of first place in the league standings after five of 16 games. These are the last two SEC programs to make the Women's Final Four, with the Aggies winning the National Title in 2011 and the Gamecocks reaching the National Semifinals last season.
The Aggies, who lead the all-time series with South Carolina 3-1, were the last team to beat the Gamecocks in Colonial Life Arena, winning 50-48 on Feb. 10, 2013. Since then, South Carolina has rattled off 42 straight wins at home, which is the nation's longest home winning streak.
South Carolina is one of three remaining unbeatens in women's basketball, but survived a scare in their last game at No. 9 Kentucky. The Wildcats led by as many as 11 in that ballgame, but South Carolina surged to break a tie with 7:26 to go, winning 73-62.
Texas A&M head coach Gary Blair has won three of his last five games against the nation's No. 2 team entering this game, including a 2-2 mark against second-ranked teams while at Texas A&M.
After this game, the Aggies return home on Thursday, January 21 to host No. 24 Missouri at 7 p.m. on SEC Network Plus.
