Phillips Cards First Career Victory at Golfweek Conference Challenge

For a third consecutive event to begin the season, a member of the Texas A&M men's golf team stood atop the player leaderboard as sophomore Chandler Phillips picked up his first career victory at the Golfweek Conference Challenge.

BURLINGTON, Iowa – For a third consecutive event to begin the season, a member of the Texas A&M men's golf team stood atop the player leaderboard as sophomore Chandler Phillips picked up his first career victory at the Golfweek Conference Challenge.

As a team the 16^th-ranked Aggies (283-287-289=859, -5) posted a second-place finish at Spirit Hollow Golf Course, trailing only Kansas (-18) on the 12-team leaderboard. San Jose State (-2), James Madison (+2) and Lipscomb (+3) rounded out the top five squads in the team standings.

"I'm really happy for Chandler to get the win this weekend," Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "10-under par was a really solid performance. He shot five-under today and I think he'd tell you that it could have been lower. He had so many opportunities and probably feels like he left some shots out there. It's good to have a guy like Chandler, who is so competitive and gives you so much every time he goes out."

The Huntsville, Texas, native (68-71-67=206, -10) shared the top spot on the player standings with Chase Hanna of Kansas to post his first career victory after posting second-place showings at this year's season-opening Turning Stone-Tiger Intercollegiate and the Valspar Collegiate Invitational as a freshman last March.

Phillips has now completed seven of his nine total rounds of competition this season at par or lower.

He becomes the third Aggie to post an individual win in as many events this season, joining junior Kavan Eubank, who topped the Turning Stone-Tiger Intercollegiate field, and junior Cameron Champ, who recorded the victory at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational.

"I'm really proud of him (Phillips) and his effort. This is the third week in a row we've had a medalist, so hopefully soon we can put all those performances together at the same time." Higgins added

Sophomore Max Miller (71-70-74=215, -1) enjoyed the best finish of his young collegiate career, carding a tie for 12^th on the 59-golfer leaderboard.

Champ (73-71-74=218, +2), meanwhile, was two over during Sunday's concluding round to share 18^th place while Eubank (71-77-75=223, +7) and freshman Josh Gliege (79-75-74=228, +12), ended play in ties for 34^th and 47^th, respectively.

Up next for the Aggie men's golf team is a trip to Alpharetta, Ga., for the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Oct. 21-23.
