INCHEON, South Korea – Texas A&M freshman golfer Viraj Madappa is set to join an elite host of golfers at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea this weekend as he takes his swings at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, which takes place Thursday through Sunday.

The event is slated for 18 holes of competition per day and can be seen in the United State on ESPN2. Coverage begins at 12 a.m. in the central time zone on Thursday and Friday, 1 a.m. (CT) on Saturday and 2 a.m. (CT) Sunday morning.

Invitations for the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship are sent to the leading players from the 40 Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) affiliated organizations. Each organization is automatically provided with two positions, which are to be filled by their highest-ranked players from the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). The winner receives an invitation to play at the Masters.

Madappa, a native of Kolkata, India, will be making his second appearance at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship following a showing at the event in 2015. He stands out as just one of six Indian golfers to earn a spot at this year's event.

In his first semester at Texas A&M, Madappa enjoyed an impressive prep career during which he captured 22 individual titles at amateur & junior tournaments in India from 2010-14 (18 Junior, 4 Amateur). Athree-time India Junior Player of the Year (2012-14), Madappa earned a spot as member of the Indian National Team in 2015 and was a member of Indian National Junior Team from 2012-14.
