BURLINGTON, Iowa – The 16th- ranked Texas A&M men's golf team sits in a tie for third place heading into the final round of play at the Golf Week Conference Challenge.
Â
The Aggies (283+287=570, -6) came into the Saturday just two shots back of leader San Jose State. They maintained that pace through the front nine on Saturday with all five golfers shooting below par. A struggle on the back nine held the Aggies back as they slipped into a share of third place with Lipscomb (289+281=570, -6).
Â
"That was a pretty dismal performance on the back nine", said Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins. "We just fell apart. We looked like a completely different team playing defensive, guiding our shots and coming up short everywhere."
Â
Kansas (287+276=563, -13) leads the tournament with a six-point cushion over San Jose State (278+291=569) and seven stokes over the Aggies.
Â
Chandler Phillips (68+71=139, -5) held a share of the top individual spot before Saturday's round. The sophomore will be within striking distance of his first tournament title as he sits one stoke shy of the leader, Daniel Sutton of Kansas.
