COLLEGE STATION- Texas A&M women's basketball announced the return of Elementary School Game for a fourth straight year, to be held on November 30, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Aggies' game against Southern Cal. The third edition of Elementary School Day drew an event-record 8,004 fans, which included around 4,500 students from local elementary schools.
Â
"Whenever you have a chance to do something for young people and the local communities, I think it is a win-win situation," said Texas A&M head coach Gary Blair. "This is a great educational field trip for these young kids to see these ladies play collegiate basketball at a high level."
Â
"Since we have started hosting Elementary School Day in 2013, it has become a game that our fans, staff and players look forward to," said Blair. "The excitement in the building is really special, and we look forward to having elementary kids from all over the area visit Reed Arena."
Â
Local schoolchildren will be invited to take a field trip to Reed Arena to watch the Aggies take on the Women of Troy, with tip time during the day to accommodate the elementary students. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network +.
Â
"Bryan ISD is incredibly excited about participating in the fourth annual Elementary School Game this year," said Kelli Nørgaard of the Bryan Independent School District. "This event has been a highlight of so many of our students' school years since our 15 elementary campuses first began going in 2013. Going to this game not only shows our students a little bit about Texas A&M women's basketball, but gives all of them an initial taste of Texas A&M and the idea that college could be something for each of them."
Â
All three of the previous Elementary School Days drew over 7,000 fans and featured an Aggie win. In the 2015 edition of the game, the Aggies defeated SMU 67-55 in front of the eighth-largest home crowd in program history.
