Aggies Head to Fort Worth for 2016 ITA Regional Championships

Catanzariti Advances to ITF Futures Quarterfinals
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Seven members of the Texas A&M Men's Tennis team will travel to Ft. Worth for the 2016 ITA Texas Regional Championships, hosted by TCU at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. In South Texas, junior AJ Catanzariti advanced to the ITA Futures Quarterfinals for the first time in his career.
Catanzariti has tallied five wins in Harlingen, including an impressive 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Julian Lenz, the former All-American at Baylor. The Pittsburgh, Penn. native will take on Benjamin Lock, a 2016 All-American for Florida State. Fellow Texas A&M junior, Jordi Arconada, also advanced to the main draw in South Texas. The Buenos Aires native, claimed a trio of wins in the qualifying draw including wins over current teammate Hady Habib and former teammate Shane Vinsant.
Catanzariti's teammates will take part in the 2016 ITA Regional Championship in Fort Worth this weekend. Play will begin with the doubles round of 32 as seniors Frankie Colunga and James Martell face Baylor's William Little and Bjoern Peterson. No. 20 Max Lunkin and Arthur Rinderknech will take on Paul Domanski and Hunter Holman of Abilene Christian, while Aleksandre Bakshi and Habib will duel with Dainel Armengol and Jose Hinojasa of Texas-Arlington.
In the singles bracket, Colunga will oppose Sebastian Langdon of ACU in the Round of 128. In the Round of 64, No. 9 Rinderknech will take on Hinojasa, Kevin Lam will face off with John Mee of Texas and Habib will play either William Jou of Texas or Cole Lawson of ACU. Rounding out the second matches for the Aggies will be, Martell against Colin Markes of Texas, Bakshi versus Nedim Ahmic of Incarnate Word, Lunkin taking on Gianni Mancini of host-TCU and Arconada playing either Paul Cook of A&M-Corpus Christi or Takeru Watanabe of UTSA.
Singles and doubles championships are scheduled to be played Monday, with the winners advancing to face other regional winners across the country at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, Nov. 3-6, in Flushing, N.Y.
