Aggie Men’s Tennis Tallies Nine Wins in Ft. Worth

COLLEGE STATION, Texas –The Texas A&M Men's Tennis team claimed nine wins in Ft. Worth at the 2016 ITA Texas Regional Championships Saturday, hosted by TCU at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas –The Texas A&M Men's Tennis team claimed nine wins in Ft. Worth at the 2016 ITA Texas Regional Championships Saturday, hosted by TCU at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
 
In doubles action, No. 20 Max Lunkin and Arthur Rinderknech topped Rodrigo Banzer and John Mee of Texas in the Round of 16 then bested Jamie Malik and Eric Rutledge of Rice. Lunkin and Rinderknech will take on No. 29 Alexander Sendegeya and Bjorn Thomson of Texas Tech in the semifinals, while Aleksandre Bakshi and Hady Habib will oppose No. 41 Trevor Johnson and Reese Stalder of TCU in the other semifinal match. Habib and Bakshi defeated Igor Cantanhede and Takeru Watanabe of UTSA to open play Saturday, then outlasted Colin Markes and Leonardo Telles of Texas in the quarters.
 
In the singles bracket, No. 9 Rinderknech defeated Telles and William Little of Baylor to advance to the quarterfinals set for 12:00 p.m. Sunday against No. 83 Sendegeya. Habib outplayed Kevin Bettendroffer of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the Round of 32, before falling in three-sets to No. 56 Guillermo Lopez of TCU. Bakshi advanced with a straight set win over Carlos Di Laura of Texas Tech before falling to Yuya Ito of Texas. Lunkin defeated Banzer before falling to No. 95 Jolan Cailleau of Texas Tech. Senior James Martell was tripped up by Gerardo Lopez Villasenor of TCU in the Round of 32.
 
Singles and doubles championships are scheduled to be played Monday, with the winners advancing to face other regional winners across the country at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, Nov. 3-6, in Flushing, N.Y.
