Texas A&M’s Koster named SEC Freshman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Texas A&M swimmer Adam Koster was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week on Tuesday for his strong performance in the Aggies' win over Incarnate Word last week.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Texas A&M swimmer Adam Koster was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week on Tuesday for his strong performance in the Aggies' win over Incarnate Word last week.
 
Koster, from Trophy Club, Texas, helped the Aggies to a 182-105 victory over the Cardinals last Friday in San Antonio. Koster posted a victory in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 45.69 and was second in the 50 free in 20.81. He also shined on the Aggies' relays with the second fastest anchor split on the 200 medley relay (20.27) and the second-fastest split on the 400 free relay (45.17).
 
Koster was ranked the No. 6 (tie) senior high school swimmer in Texas in 2016 by CollegeSwimming.com. As a senior at Byron Nelson High School, Koster was the Texas state Class 6A runner-up in 50 free in 20.44 and fifth in the 100 free in 45.18. As a sophomore and junior, he was a finalist in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle at the Class 4A state meet. Koster was also a two-time competitor at the Speedo Junior National Championships.
 
The Aggies return to action this Friday with their 2016-17 home opener against the South Carolina Gamecocks at 5 p.m. at the Student Recreation Natatorium. The dual meet, which is in conjunction with Alumni Weekend, has been designated the "Pink Meet" for breast cancer awareness and the first 100 fans at the Rec will receive pink Texas A&M Swimming and Diving flip flops.
