COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M Aggies wrap up the 2016 regular season Thursday as they travel to Starkville for a 7 p.m. match against the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
The Aggies enter the fray on a two-match win streak and they're looking to nail down the No. 8 spot in the SEC Tournament. Texas A&M is 9-7-1 overall and 4-5-1 in league action.
Mississippi State looks to snap a five-match losing streak. The Bulldogs are 6-11-0 on the season and occupy the cellar of the SEC standings with a 1-9-0 mark.
A victory would keep a couple streaks alive for the Aggies. It would give the Maroon and White a streak of 21 seasons without experiencing a losing record in league action. It would also guarantee the Aggies their 24th consecutive winning season.
Texas A&M ranks second in the league in goals-against average (0.92) and sixth in shutouts (five). Senior goalkeeper DANIELLE RICE ranks third in the SEC in goals-against average (0.92) and fourth in shutouts (five). HALEY POUNDS leads the Aggie offense, ranking sixth in the SEC in assists (7), seventh in points (21) and 10th in goals (7).
Pounds earned the most recent SEC Offensive Player of the Week honor after a week in which she logged a goal and two assists as the Aggies toppled Kentucky and No. 11 Auburn by identical 2-1 marks. She logged two assists against the Wildcats and scored the game-winning goal against the Tigers. GRACE PIPER earned the most recent SEC Rookie of the Year accolade, assisting on the game-winning goal against Kentucky and scoring the first goal of the match versus Auburn.
