PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Texas A&M senior Saska Gavrilovska suffered a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 loss to 10th-ranked Katarina Adamovic of Oklahoma State in the first round of the main draw at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, Thursday at the Riviera Tennis Club.
Gavrilovska, a career-high No. 15 in the preseason Oracle ITA Women's National Singles Rankings, will face fifth-ranked and No. 2 seed Sinead Lohan of Miami in the consolation draw today at 12:30 p.m. (PT). Lohan was upset by Vanderbilt's 19th-ranked Astra Sharma, 6-1, 7-6 (6), in the first round of the main draw.
The Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championship is the first national championship tournament of the 2016-17 season. The singles and doubles finals scheduled for Oct. 9.
Main draw singles semifinalists, main draw doubles finalists and main draw consolation champions will receive automatic entry into the 2016 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, Nov. 3-6 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.
