THE WOODLANDS, Texas- The No. 20 Texas A&M women's golf team had a strong showing in the first two rounds of the Jim West Challenge on Sunday, shooting a 2-under 574 to sit in fourth place and having two players in the top five after 36 holes.
"We got solid rounds out of some players today, and some players had to battle today," said Texas A&M head coach Trelle McCombs. "If we can put it all together tomorrow as a group, we can really shoot up the leaderboard."
The Aggies shot a 2-under 286 in the first round and an even par 288 in the second round at the Carlton Woods Creekside Fazio Course to sit in fourth place. The Aggies have shot par-or-better in each of their last three rounds as a team.
Thanya Pattamakijsakul shot a 69-68=137 (-7) to sit in second place after two rounds. Maddie Szeryk, fresh off of a third-place finish at the Schooner Fall Classic, shot 69-70=139 (-5) on the par 72 / 6,137 yard course to tie for fourth after two rounds. Szeryk's two under-par rounds give her 45, breaking the previous Texas A&M record of 43, despite Szeryk being just a junior.
Bianca Fabrizio shot a 74-72=146 (+2) on Sunday to tie for 27th after two rounds. Andrea Jonama (76-78) and Callie Scheffler (74-80) both shot a 10-over 154 on Sunday.
Florida State's Matilda Castren leads the tournament with a 10-under 134. The Seminoles lead the team portion of the tournament with a 15-under 561.
