Coaches Honor Davis as Preseason All-SEC

After turning heads during an impressive rookie campaign, Texas A&M sophomore center Tyler Davis was recognized Thursday by the league's coaches with a spot on the Preseason All-SEC First Team.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – On the eve of the Aggies' tipping off the 2016-17 campaign, Texas A&M sophomore center Tyler Davis was recognized Thursday by the league's coaches with a spot on the Preseason All-SEC First Team.

The coaches' preseason All-SEC first and second teams consist of a minimum of eight players on each squad, voted on by the SEC Head Men's Basketball Coaches. No ties were broken and no predicted order of finish was made.

Davis played a prominent role in the Aggies' success as a freshman a year ago, standing out as one of the SEC's top big men. The Plano, Texas, native averaged 11.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per contest while shooting 65.5 percent from the floor and pacing the team with 41 blocked shots. Along with teammate DJ Hogg, Davis garnered SEC All-Freshman honors at the conclusion of the season.

Texas A&M will officially christen the 2016-17 season Friday night when the Aggies welcome Northwestern State to Reed Arena for an 8 p.m. contest. The game will be nationally televised by SEC Network with Richard Cross and Sean Farnham on the call from Aggieland.
