COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M Softball freshman Miranda Miles delivered the game-winning RBI single as White defeated Maroon, 1-0, Monday evening at the Aggie Softball Complex.
With the win, White takes a commanding 3-0 lead in the annual Maroon and White Series.
Junior Tori Vidales led off the top of the sixth inning with a single up the middle and advanced to third on a junior Erin Houthoofd base hit. Miles plated Vidales with a single through the right side to give White a 1-0 advantage.
Maroon threatened but stranded runners in scoring position in the second and fifth innings. In the second inning, sophomore Samantha Show hit a single and reached third on a double to left field by sophomore Riley Sartain.
In the fifth, freshman Blake-Ann Fritsch walked and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by freshman Payton McBride and a base hit by sophomore Keeli Milligan. Junior Lexi Smith was able to get herself out of the jam with a strike out and fly out to left.
On the night, both teams combined to strand 15 runners.
Smith earned the win to move to 3-0 on the series. The junior allowed just six hits and struck out two in seven innings of work.
McBride suffered the loss for Maroon, allowing only one run on three hits and striking out four. Switching off with McBride was Show, who pitched four scoreless innings, giving up just three hits.
The Aggies will return to action Tuesday for game four at 4:00 p.m. at the Aggie Softball Complex.

Head Coach Jo Evans quotes
On junior RHP Lexi Smith…
"She looked really good. She was for the most part in control. Her rise ball was just getting up and out of the zone. She could be a little more pinpoint with it like she was in the other two games, but she did everything she needed to do to win this ballgame. She handled pressure when she needed to. She shut it down when they had the inning with the two doubles in the same inning. She just has a way of bowing up out there and shutting it down."
On freshman Miranda Miles…
"I'm really happy for Miranda. She's put in so much extra time. She's in the cages doing what she can to get better. She's got great hand-eye coordination, just trying to tweak her swing a little bit so that she can get some power and get it into her legs. It's always fun for a coach when somebody goes out there and works that hard. She's a freshman from California, she's one of the new kids and just to come in and get comfortable and be able to go into that clubhouse and go, 'Yeah, I got that RBI for my ball club,' that feels good when you can contribute like that."
