Texas A&M gears up for Art Adamson Invitational

MANSFIELD, Texas --- The Texas A&M men's and women's swimming teams will host squads from all over the country Thursday through Saturday in the annual Art Adamson Invitational, which will be contested at the Mansfield ISD Natatorium.

MANSFIELD, Texas --- The Texas A&M men's and women's swimming teams will host squads from all over the country Thursday through Saturday in the annual Art Adamson Invitational, which will be contested at the Mansfield ISD Natatorium.
 
The Aggies' annual fall invitational meet is named for legendary Texas A&M swim coach Art Adamson, who coached the Aggies for more than 35 years. Adamson was one of the longest tenured coaches in Texas A&M athletics history, coaching the Aggies from 1934 to 1970. During his time at Texas A&M, Adamson coached All-Americans and Olympians, while leading the Aggies to multiple conference team championships. He was inducted in the Texas A&M Athletics Hall of Fame in 1970, as well as the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame and the Texas Swimming Hall of Fame.
 
The Aggie swimmers will be facing off against competitors from SMU, TCU, Arizona State, LSU, Incarnate Word and Boise State (women only).
 
While the swimmers are in Mansfield, the Aggie divers will be competing at the Mizzou Invitational Thursday through Saturday at the Mizzou Aquatic Center in Columbia, Mo. The Aggie divers will face competitors from Missouri, Illinois (women only), Iowa State (women only), LSU, Nebraska (women only), North Dakota State, Northern Colorado (women only), SMU, UNLV and Wisconsin.
 
MOST RECENT ACTION…
The Aggie women tallied a 171-124 win over the No. 18 Florida Gators, while the men's squad dropped a narrow 159-141 decision to the No. 8 Gators. The women's team won 12 of 16 events against UF while logging more than a dozen NCAA qualifying cuts. Senior Sarah Gibson was named SEC Swimmer of the Week by CollegeSwimming.com after winning three races against the Gators. The men claimed victories in six races while posting 10 NCAA "B" swimming cuts or zone qualifying diving scores against the Gators.
 
IN THE RANKINGS…
In the most recent CSCAA top 25 poll, the Texas A&M women's team was ranked No. 10, while the men's squad debuted at No. 14.
