COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M outside hitter Hollann Hans (pronounced haul-lyn hands) has been named the SEC Freshman Player of the Week for volleyball, the Southeastern Conference announced Monday. It is the second time the Corpus Christi native has received the award.
Hans led Texas A&M with 4.50 points per set and tied for the team lead with 4.00 kills per set as the Aggies earned victories over both LSU and Auburn to close out the regular season.
Against LSU, Hans took match-high honors and posted career highs in both kills and points while leading the Aggies to a 3-1 victory. The rookie finished with 20 kills, the most kills by an A&M player in a four-set match this season. Hans also had 22.5 points, the most points scored by an A&M player this season in all matches.
Hans, a member of the recently announced SEC All-Freshman Team, finished her first conference season leading the Aggies and ranked 12th in the league with 3.52 points per set. She also led A&M and was ranked fifth in the conference with 0.28 aces per set in SEC matches only, and she finished second on the team with 3.21 kills per set.
Texas A&M, 21-8 overall, finished tied with Kentucky for third place in the final SEC standings with a 15-3 record. The Aggies received an at-large berth to the 64-team NCAA Championship and will face SMU in the first round on Friday at 4 p.m. at Gregory Gym in Austin.
