Davis Named SEC Player of the Week

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – For the first time during his already impressive career Texas A&M center Tyler Davis has been named SEC Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – For the first time during his already impressive career Texas A&M center Tyler Davis has been named SEC Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
 
A 6-foot-10, 270-pound sophomore from Plano, Texas, Davis helped the Aggies notch three victories last week by averaging 18 points and eight rebounds while shooting 73.1 percent from the field in wins over A&M-Corpus Christi, Denver and South Carolina State.
 
Davis scored a career-high 25 points during Monday's victory over A&M-Corpus Christi, converting 9-of-12 field goal attempts and 7-of-9 chances at the free throw line. The Aggie big man hit the 20-point plateau for the second time during the week and his career with 22 points during Saturday's win over South Carolina State as he converted 8-of-9 shots from the field and notched his third consecutive game with eight boards.
 
For the season, Davis leads the Aggies in scoring (14.6 points per game) and rebounding (7.6 boards per game) while also contributing 15 assists, 11 blocked shots and five steals.
 
Tennessee's Jordan Bowden was named SEC Freshman of the Week.
 
Texas A&M men's basketball returns to the hardwood with a marquee match-up at Houston's Toyota Center on Saturday where the Aggies will face nationally-ranked Arizona.
