Texas A&M’s Williams named to ESPN’s True Freshman All-America Team
Dec 12, 2016 | Football
Texas A&M running back Trayveon Williams was named to ESPN's True Freshman All-American Team that was announced on Monday.
Williams, a freshman from C.E. King High School in Houston, had a record-setting season that included becoming the first true freshman to surpass the 1,000-yard plateau in rushing yards in program history. Williams enters the Aggies' Advocare V100 Texas Bowl matchup with Kansas State with a team-best 1,024 rushing yards on just 147 carries for an impressive 7.0 per carry average.
Williams, who enrolled at Texas A&M less than a year ago in January, also become Texas A&M's first true freshman to eclipse the 200-yard barrier in a game when he rushed for 217 yards on 28 carries against Tennessee. His 89-yard touchdown run against Auburn was the second-longest ever by a freshman at Texas A&M. In 12 games in 2016, Williams had five runs of more than 40 yards and had five TD rushes of at least 20 yards.
