Dec 05, 2016 | Soccer
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M sophomore Ally Watt completed her run with United States Soccer at the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup in Papua New Guinea over the weekend.
The United States finished fourth at the tournament, going 2-2-2 at the event. A pair of late goals sunk the Americans as they lost to North Korea in extra time, 2-1, in the semifinals and fell to Japan, 1-0, on an 87th minute goal, in the third-place match.
Watt saw action as a reserve in five of the six matches. She was not used in the third-place match against Japan. Despite seeing just roughly 85 minutes of action at the tournament, Watt scored two of the United States' seven goals, tied for the squad lead with Mallory Pugh.
The Colorado Springs native's first goal was an insurance tally in the 82nd minute of a 3-1 pool play victory over New Zealand. Her second goal was an 80th minute equalizer in the United States' 2-1 victory over Mexico in quarterfinal action. Her effort in the victory earned her FIFA Player of the Match recognition.
Watt, who redshirted this fall, earned SEC All-Freshman Team recognition in 2015. She played in 26 matches as a rookie, including 17 starts. She tallied seven goals on the season, including four game-winning goals. Watt also garnered SEC Tournament All-Tournament Team distinction as she helped the squad advance to its third consecutive championship match.
