TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Maddie Szeryk leads the Florida State Match-Up with at 3-under par after two rounds, and attempts to become the second straight Aggie to win this event in the third and final round on Sunday at the Don Veller Seminole Golf Course.
"It was a tough start today, but we finished a lot better and will take that into tomorrow's round," said Texas A&M head coach Trelle McCombs. "I'm proud of Maddie Szeryk for battling today. She has learned that when she doesn't have her A-game, she can still post a good score."
Szeryk started the day with back-to-back bogeys, but still battled back to have five birdies on the day, and shoot an even-par 72, giving her a 141 (-3) for the tournament. She sits one stroke ahead of SMU's Jenny Haglund entering the final round. Szeryk looks to repeat the success of her teammate Bianca Fabrizio last season, who won the Florida State Match-Up in a playoff.
The Aggies were 10-over on the front nine of the par 72/6260 yard course, but rallied back with three golfers posting par-or-better back nines to finish the round with an 11-over 299. Texas A&M is in a tie for fourth with SMU at 597 (+21) for the tournament. South Carolina leads the tournament at 582 (+6).
Andrea Jonama comes in behind Szeryk in a tie for 23rd at 150 (+6) after shooting a 5-over 77 in the tournament's second round.
Thanya Pattamakijsakul and Fabrizio each shot a 3-over 75 on Saturday. Pattamakijsakul is tied for 28th in the tournament at 151 (+7), and Fabrizio, who finished the day with three birdies in her last five holes, is tied for 45th at 156 (+12). Callie Scheffler shot an 80 (+8) Saturday and is tied for 55th at 160 (+16).
Playing as an individual, Emily Campbell shot a 6-over 78 and is tied for 42nd in the tournament with a 155 (+11).
The Aggies tee off in the final of three rounds on Sunday, starting at 9:35 a.m. CT.
