COLLEGE STATION – The No. 23 Texas A&M softball team hosts Sam Houston State Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT at the Aggie Softball Complex. The Aggies are coming off a 4-1 opening weekend at the Aggie Classic, including a win over No. 7 UCLA.
"Every time we play Sam Houston State, they play us great," head coach Jo Evans said. "It seems like it is their best game of the year and it is great. It is always fun to play them. It is always fun to welcome Coach (Bob) Brock back to the Aggie Softball Complex. They are just a team that pushes all game long. They don't let down. It is always a challenge for us."
Offensively, A&M was led by Keeli Milligan, who was named the SEC's Freshman of the Week and sophomore Tori Vidales. Milligan stole a league-high eight bases during the Aggie Classic while hitting an even .500 (9-for-18) in the leadoff spot. Vidales blasted three home runs on the weekend, including two against Wichita State on Feb. 14.
Sophomore Trinity Harrington and freshman Samantha Show dazzled in the circle, as Harrington went 2-0 with a 0.57 ERA and 11 strikeouts. Show opened her career with a complete game, striking out 15 against the Shockers. Show's 15 strikeouts were the highest since Mel Dumezich fanned 16 against Illinois State on March 2, 2013.
The Bearkats are currently 0-4 after competing at the A&M-Corpus Chrsti Islander Classic. SHSU's squad consists of nine letterwinners from last season and a group of newcomers that include eight freshmen and four transfers.
Live streaming of the game can be seen live on the SEC Network +, available through WatchESPN and the ESPN app and can be heard locally on KWBC 1550 AM.
