"I am proud of our ball club. We bent a little bit, but we didn't break," head coach Jo Evans said. "The game is so much about your opportunities and what you are going to do with those and Katie Marks took advantage of hers. I am proud of her for making the most of it. I really liked Samantha Show's poise. She went out there and attacked the strike zone and gave us a chance to make plays. She looked good out there. I was proud of her."
The Aggies got on the Gauchos early, scoring eight runs in the first inning. Freshman Kaitlyn Alderink doubled to score freshman Keeli Milligan, before sophomore Tori Vidales and senior Cali Lanphear walked to load the bases. Sophomore Ashley Walters singled to left, scoring Alderink and Vidales.
With one out, sophomore Kristen Cuyos singled to left, plating Lanphear, as freshman Samantha Show walked to load the bases again. Sophomore April Ryan singled to left, scoring Walters, before Alderink and Vidales recorded back-to-back walks with the bases juiced.
UCSB responded with three runs in the top of the second, but Show smashed her first career home run to right field to give the Aggies an 11-3 lead after two.
The Gauchos added another run in the top of the third, but the Aggies bounced back in the bottom of the fourth to take a 13-4 lead. Show led the inning off with a double before Ryan singled to right, scoring senior Alex Masek, who pinch ran for Show. Sophomore Hailey Rebar recorded her first career double to score Ryan.
Show earned her fourth win of the season in the circle, tossing five innings and striking out six.
In game two, the Huskies scored one run in the first inning on a SAC fly, but the Aggies scored five unanswered runs in the first and second inning. Vidales scored from second on a single to right from Walters, before Sartain singled to left, driving in Walters and Lanphear. In the bottom of the second, Vidales launched her fourth home run of the season, scoring Alderink.
Washington added one back in the top of the third on a Julia DePonte single, before tying the game in the top of the fourth, where the Huskies scored three runs on two hits, taking advantage of two defensive miscues by the Aggies.
A&M rallied in the fifth, scoring five runs off four hits. Vidales started things off with a double to right center before Lanphear was hit by a pitch. Walters singled to right to load the bases, as Ryan singled to right to score Vidales. Senior Breanna Dozier belted a grand slam to left center on a 1-1 pitch giving the Aggies all the offense they needed.
Senior Katie Marks earned her first win of the season, striking out three in five and a third innings.
The Aggies will close the Mary Nutter Classic Sunday against No. 10 Arizona at 11 a.m. CT and New Mexico at 1:30 p.m. CT.
