COLLEGE STATION—Texas A&M University and Fresno State University have agreed to play a single non-conference football game on Sept. 26, 2020 at Kyle Field.
The Aggies and Bulldogs have faced each other once before on the Kyle Field gridiron in 2007. Texas A&M outlasted the stubborn Bulldogs, 47-45, in triple overtime. For the Aggies, Stephen McGee rushed for 124 yards on the ground while Jorvorskie Lane added 121 yards and four rushing touchdowns including two touchdowns in overtime periods. Lane would add a two-point conversion in the third overtime and the Aggie defense made it stand up for the win.
The current head football coach at Fresno State is Tim DeRuyter. DeRuyter, who played football at the Air Force Academy, was the Texas A&M defensive coordinator in 2010 and 2011 and served as the interim head coach for the Aggies' 33-22 bowl win against Northwestern in 2011. DeRuyter's son recently graduated from the Air Force Academy and DeRuyter's daughter, Christina, is a student at Texas A&M.
Earlier, the Aggies announced a non-conference home and home series with Colorado coming to Kyle Field on Sept. 19, 2020. Texas A&M will return the trip to Colorado in 2021.
Other non-conference games announced include UCLA in 2016 and 2017, along with Clemson in 2018 and 2019. A home and home with Notre Dame is slated for 2024 and 2025.
